(SAVANNAH, GA) On April 2, 2011, at 10AM there will be an official kick-off for ARTISTS’ SQUARE in Telfair Square. Artists are invited to paint or draw outside in the square with other artists. Artists need to bring their own easels, chairs, paints. No reservations are required. There is no charge to participate.
Artists are encouraging to paint in Telfair Square everyday, as long as there are no other events scheduled. The first Saturday of every month will be a starting point for this creative initiative.
Outside painting is also know as Plein Air painting and became famous during the Impressionist Movement in Paris.
In 2010 ARTISTS’ SQUARE made the Savannah Magazine’s top 20 list ‘Big Ideas’ for Savannah’s future. On Saturday April 2, 2011, ARTISTS’ SQUARE will become a reality. “Ever since I visited Montmarte in Paris, I thought that we could do the same thing in Telfair Square in Savannah, Ga,” says Marjorie Young.
Plein Air artists are welcome to join other artists in Telfair Square everyday.
ARTISTS’ SQUARE is located between two public art galleries; The Jepson Center for the Arts and the Telfair Museum of Art in the historic Telfair Square, right off of Broughton Street and two blocks south of City Market in Savannah, Georgia.
ARTISTS’ SQUARE was created for a place that artists can paint outside and learn from each other. At this point, artists will not be able to sell their works in the square.
